The octagonal water tower on Margaret Island was built in Art Nouveau style
in 1911
and designed by Hungarian architect Rezső Ray.
The tower ensures the water supply for the tenants of the island and also functions as a lookout tower for visitors. It stands 57 meter (187 foot) high and has a cubic capacity of 600.000 liter (158,503 gallon).
On May 2nd 2012, this 101-year old famous landmark reopens to the public with a Budapest photo exhibition featuring the beautiful works of our very own contributor, Márk Mervai.
Over the past several months Márk has been granted special access to many of Budapest's famous landmarks and attractions, including the Parliament Building, the Budapest Opera House and even the roof of the New York Café.
The exhibition will be open from May to October.
Open:
11 am to 10 pm daily, May to October
Admission:
Adults: HUF 1,400
Children/Seniors: HUF 800 (free entry for kids under 6)
Groups: HUF 1,200 per person for groups of more than 10 people
Budapest Card holders get 20% discount!
*During Budapest Summer Festival performances the tower is open 7 pm – 11 pm and admission to the water tower is only available for festival ticket holders
(a separate ticket is still needed to visit the water tower).
Getting to the water tower:
Take tram No. 4 or 6 to Margaret Bridge (the stop is in the middle of the bridge, where it branches off to Margaret Island) then take Bus No. 26 to Szabadtéri Színpad.
